Welcome...

As members of AMSUT, we would like to bring together current Macedonian students at the University of Toronto. Our goal is to embark on the same paths as our predecessors and keep the cause and vision viable.

We must be active in bringing about positive changes within our respective communities, creating cohesion among all Macedonian youth organizations and establishing stronger ties between social, cultural and political characteristics of what it means to be Macedonian!

The following courses are offered at UofT

SLA109Y - Elementary Macedonian

This course is designed for students with little or no knowledge of the Macedonian Literary Language. This course covers most of the basic grammar. At the end of the course students will be able to converse about their home and school life, music, food, sports, etc. They will begin reading real Macedonian texts and will be able to write short texts.

SLA209Y1 - Intermediate Macedonian

Systematic study of morphology. Reading and translation of more complex texts; more advanced composition; oral practice. (Offered in alternate years)
Prerequisite: SLA109Y

LA380H1 - Language, Politics and Identity

Examines the multi-faceted nature of languages by comparing issues of language contact and conflict in the Former Soviet Union and in Central and Southeastern Europe. Explores issues such as language standards, language rights, language conflict, and linguistic identity.

Recommended preparation: Knowledge of at least one Slavic language is recommended.

Events

Dear AMSUT Members,

As the school year approaches, AMSUT is already planning many events for this year including bringing back our Pub Nights and hosting several seminars throughout the year.

We do, however, have a great opportunity coming up for anyone interested in volunteering with AMSUT at the 4th Annual Macedonian Film Festival. If you, or anyone you know, is in need of volunteer hours, please be sure to e-mail us ASAP as you will receive a written notice of your hours. For more information on the festival, taking place October 15, 17 & 18, check out the website at http://www.macedonianfilmfestival.com/.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

David Tomovski,
President '09-10

Hello Everyone,

On behalf of this year's Executive I would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to all members of this Association, past and present, for your help, support, feedback, and for your willingness to be part of something that will continue to grow and serve as a positive aspect of student life for Macedonian students at the University of Toronto.

Congratulations to the new Executive members and all the best for the 2009-10 academic year!
